airplane tat

while digging through a box of papers today, i came across some old airline tickets/safety manuals/barf bags. i don't know why i keep these. i also don't know why i keep printouts of emails with flight info either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

airtran, you know

(hartsfield used to be my airport. airtran had its largest hub there.)

i love this sticker from northwest. i think it's circa late 90s/early 00s.

this is from a safety manual for a dc9.

it brought up the questions "are dc9s still flown?" and "when was the last time you saw one of those on the runway?!" see also "damn, those look kinda weird now!" and "nope, not even for puddle jumpers, i guess."

bowled over

today i ate everything out of bowls. laksa,

kale chips and caramel corn.

i'm not sure if i'm bowled over by the girl on the train or not. i'm roughly half way through and, eh, i'll keep reading. will let you know if it lives up to hype.

a different way to utilize 3d printing tech + doc's orders

a friend of leff's has started slip casting 3d printed vessels. this concept is interesting to me. (until now i have not seen a use for 3d printing outside of product design modeling, nasa wrench printing, possibly a solution to housing shortage (do not bring up medical use. no surgical implants of 3d printed material for me, thanks. i'm not down with guinea pigging.))

*i* am under doc's orders to pick up the brush again.

we'll see how this goes as i am not entirely over the burnout but ultimately it doesn't really matter as these post its are ALSO doc's orders.

i've got a great doc. i really do.

i went to seattle today...

...and didn't have to listen to anyone talking about fucking football because i had my headphones. this is the *only* way to survive the insufferableness of it all, trust.

but in lighter news, here is that mammoth crane (which is not shaped like a mammoth, sadly) that will be pulling the boring boring machine out of the ground.

i eagerly anticipate the further failure of this project.  honestly, laughing at that boondoogle (and the stupidity of wa state politics in general) is really the only thing that got me through last year.

i'm mean. you knew this. it's why you like me.

but don't flatter yourself that i shall suffer you to make..wait, what?

this weekend so far

it has been gross and i have been super tired. still made egg tarts though!

(*such* a good recipe. tarts are EVEN BETTER on the second day!)

subbed half garbanzos and half edamame

to make ful medames to go with baba ghanoush and fresh made pita. it would have been better with favas but you work with what you've got.

got another card from padre.

he's the photog in my biological family. i used to help carry his equipment on weekends when he would go hunting for photo subjects in the woods. (in fact, until i got a little older, i didn't realize that photography and cooking were things that *everyone* could do, not just men. ha!)

catching up plus a great laksa recipe

"so what's new in 2015?" you might ask. i can safely say "a lot!" but i can also honestly say "nothing!"

on the nothing side has been a lot of "scarecrow and mrs king". i also read vivian apple at the end of the world  which i can recommend if you are into ya, road trips and death cults.  (well, reading about death cults. i may have lived in a city that has a heaven's gate sponsored tile at one of the most popular tourist sites but i'm absolutely not going to suggest that you join one of those things.)

on the "a lot!" tip, hey! we might be going to taiwan and cambodia in the relatively near future! !!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! i am absolutely flipping out about this!!!!  HOLY SHIT TAIWAN AND CAMBODIA!!!!!!!!!!! ( i just have to lock in dates with a cat/house sitter.)(edit, 4.10.15-- looks like we're going to japan instead!)

wish me luck with learning some super basic khmer. don't even bother wishing me luck with modern standard chinese though. haaaaaaaaaaa hahahahaa oh no way. we'll make do with leff's hs mandarian (will that even work??) (we are terrible. :/ )

we might also possibly find our way to detroit by mid year. and, ok, possibly cairo too. who knows though.  (there's still a lot up in the air but, wow, signs are looking amazing. if what we all want to happen FINALLY happens then FUCK YES we are going to cairo.)

ah, i seem to be going cryptic again so i will leave you with an incredible recipe for chicken laksa. it looks like there's a lot going on with it (i mean, the spices

the fresh garnish)

but it's actually quite simple to make and is well worth the effort.

the holiday book stack

remember when i said that i didn't want to buy or receive any more books until after we'd moved? haaa, yeah. here's the book haul from the holidays.

it might be possible that we do a fair bit of reading at the casa. (you should see the books that leff got for his birthday in oct.)

i think we're gonna need more boxes. :/

woo 2015

our nye was spent with scarecrow and mrs king.

we also noshed on some green velvet brownies.

here is the greatest name for a house passed down through matrilineal lines that i have ever seen.

happy new year or whatever. i'm going to watch more of lee and amanda's exploits.
