pan de muerto (with special guest appearence by the virgin mary)

happy all soul's day and second day of dia de los muertos, ghouls and boooOOoOoys! in continued celebration of the trio of spooky holidays, i made pan de muerto.

here's the recipe if you'd like to make it yourself.

before you get started though, remember that it's a yeast dough that will take a lot of rising time. i forgot and, as a result, didn't finish baking until 1 a.m. anyway, here's the dough before i stuck it on the radiator to help expediate the rising process.

mary proclaimed "it has risen!" because, well, that's what yeast breads do.

after the first rising stage, the bread has to be decorated.

there's really no point in trying to do detail work, the bread will rise again during baking and gloop out anything that you've done. see?

no more eyesockets. oh well. it still looks ok, i suppose. plus, it's tasty and eggy and yeasty. three things that are better than the stooges and the triple crown combined! (that equals six, btw, if you're doing the math.)

more sketching is slated for today. leff's seen some of them and he laughed (in a good way) at what was on the paper. it's always a good sign when i make leff laugh.
